Wegovy FAQs

How do you inject Wegovy?

Wegovy is injected once a week, on the same day each week. You can inject it into your stomach, thigh, or upper arm. Clean the area before use, and rotate injection sites to prevent irritation. Each pen delivers a single, pre-measured dose and should not be reused.

How long does the pen last?

Each Wegovy pen contains one weekly dose. You’ll need a new pen for each injection. Your prescriber will advise the correct dose strength and how many pens you’ll need per month.

How long can I use Wegovy?

Wegovy can be used long term if it remains effective and well-tolerated. Many patients continue treatment for months or years as part of a managed weight-loss plan. Your prescriber will regularly review your progress to decide how long you should stay on treatment.

Will you check in with my progress?

Yes. Our prescriber will monitor your progress and adjust your plan if needed. This may include dose changes, side-effect management, or lifestyle support to help you reach your goals safely.

What if I can't tolerate my new dose?

If you find the new dose difficult, do not stop or change it yourself. Contact your prescriber. They may recommend staying on your current dose longer or pausing before increasing again to allow your body to adjust.

Is Mounjaro licensed in the UK?

Yes. Wegovy is licensed by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) for weight management in adults who are overweight or obese. It is a prescription-only medicine available through UK-registered prescribers and pharmacies.

How should Wegovy be stored?

Keep Wegovy pens in the fridge (2°C to 8°C) before first use. Do not freeze them. After first use, you may store the pen at room temperature (below 30°C) for up to 28 days. Always keep the pen in its original box to protect it from light.

What if I miss a dose of Wegovy?

If you miss a dose and it’s within 4 days (96 hours), take it as soon as possible. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose and continue on your usual day. Do not inject two doses close together.

Can I use Mounjaro while pregnant?

No. Wegovy should not be used during pregnancy, as its safety has not been established. If you become pregnant while taking Wegovy, stop treatment and contact your doctor.

Does Wegovy affect the oral contraceptive pill?

Yes, temporarily. Wegovy can delay pill absorption during dose increases. Use a barrier method, such as condoms, for 4 weeks after starting or raising your dose to maintain protection.

I am planning on becoming pregnant, what should I do?

Stop Wegovy at least two months before trying to conceive. This allows the medicine to clear fully from your system and helps ensure a safe pregnancy. Speak with your prescriber for tailored advice.

Can I use Wegovy while breastfeeding?

No. It’s unknown if Wegovy passes into breast milk, so it should not be used while breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor about other safe options for weight management after pregnancy.

How does Wegovy work?

Wegovy helps you lose weight by mimicking the natural hormone GLP-1, which controls appetite and food intake. It slows digestion and helps you feel full after smaller meals, reducing overall calorie intake. When combined with a balanced diet, it supports steady and sustained weight loss.

What causes weight loss?

Weight loss happens when your body uses more energy than it takes in. This can result from eating fewer calories, increasing activity, or both. Medical factors like thyroid imbalance, diabetes, or certain medications can also affect weight. For people with obesity, hormone and appetite regulation often make weight loss harder without medical support.

How does weight loss injection treatment work?

Weight loss injections such as Wegovy or Mounjaro mimic natural hormones that regulate appetite and blood sugar. They help you feel full sooner, reduce cravings, and slow digestion. This leads to a lower calorie intake and gradual, sustainable weight loss when combined with a balanced diet and regular activity.
